It integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
- Processor: The 1.46 GHz Intel Pentium T2310 dual-core processor delivers additional computing resources and help expand the PC's capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly. Each core shares 1 MB of L2 cache, and they have a 533 MHz front-side bus. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Hard Drive: The 120 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 20,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: This notebook comes with 1 GB of installed RAM, which is also the maximum capacity for this notebook. With this amount of memory, you'll be able to easily work on documents and spreadsheets as well as manage a digital audio and video library, but it's underpowered for 3-D gaming and video editing.
- DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.
This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad.
You'll enjoy razor-sharp graphics and widescreen movies with the 15.4-inch WXGA high-definition screen, which displays an 18 percent larger picture than standard 15-inch screens and offers up to an 18 percent improvement in contrast ratio. It has a widescreen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels--perfect for watching DVD movies the way they were meant to be seen. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, which uses shared video memory (up to 251 MB allocated from the system memory) and provides Windows Vista Aero interface support and enhanced 3-D graphics performance--delivering over 2x scores on 3-DMark 06. Intel Clear Video Technology provides outstanding video playback with sharper image quality, increased clarity, and customizable color controls. It also enables enhanced visual quality of interlaced content on progressive displays.
The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and a pair of stereo earbud headphones with volume controls is included. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks.

Customer Reviews
Great laptop, vista just sucks
I have had this laptop for a while now and I can do anything on it. I might have to adjust a little bit here and there but when you get to know how to use vista, this laptop becomes all you need. Lots of hard drive space. Fast processor. Built in wireless and 3 usb ports. The only thing I would change is the battery. Mine is horrible but there is a chance the abuse I have given it is the problem and not the battery itself.
This is singlehandedly the WORST product I have ever purchased
Actually, it's the worst product my boyfriend ever purchased because he bought it for me for Christmas last year. This thing never worked right, tech support was horrendous, we sent it back to HP twice to get it fixed and they never solved the problem. I took it into an independent shop to get it diagnosed and there's a crack on the motherboard, which makes the laptop not worth fixing at this point. I've finally come to terms with the fact that this computer is a lemon. Shame on HP for not making it right. I will never purchase anything from them ever again.
Good for the price
This was given to me as a gift, wasn't what I asked for, but anyway. Mine died after owning it for 1 month. Basically it was problem with Vista. I chatted with the HP tech online on another computer trying to fix the problem, no dice. The technician claimed it was my fault I broke it. Oh, I did not get a recovery disk when I got the laptop either, so it didn't help the situation that I had to wait 1 month for the recovery disk while HP sent it to me. Yes, mine was a faulty programming issue by Vista as I later determined. I had asked for a much tougher laptop because I do digital photography. But because this one only has 1GB RAM, when I use photoshop, all the other programs has to be shut down. By the way, the laptop came with 1 year of anti-virus and X number of Office use. But since mine had to be rebooted, I lost all that. I no longer have 1 year free use of anti-virus or the X-number use of Office. Just a word of warning to people who is getting this. But considering the price, not a bad deal if you just need something that you can haul around with you on the go. If yours do break and you can actually get someone from HP who knows anything about Vista to chat with you, then you will be ok. I had to call HP 3 times to get someone who actually knew what I was talking about. And the person knew instantly it was faulty programming by Vista, which caused my laptop to completely freeze and wouldn't turn on anymore.
